Desert Soil Builder Mix (Cool Season)

This blend pairs two of the hardest working plants in the garden and lets them do a job that would otherwise take you a season of amendments and tilling. The daikon drives deep, breaking up compacted desert soil and pulling minerals up from below. The Austrian winter pea fixes nitrogen and spreads a low mat of growth that holds moisture and keeps the soil surface protected through the coldest, driest months. Together, they’re doing structural repair and fertility building at the same time, in the same bed, for the price of one seed packet.
This mix was built specifically for Mojave winters. Sown in fall, it establishes while temperatures are mild, works through the cold months, and leaves you with loose, fed soil and a mat of green material to chop and drop right before spring planting. No tilling equipment, no bagged fertilizer, no guesswork about what your soil needs. Just seed it, let it grow, and cut it down when you’re ready to plant.
